It’s been a hot market in 2021 for single-family homes, and in New Bedford some great, historic, grand homes (22 rooms! 8 bedrooms!) Have sold for prices that shake things up in the local market.

Here are the top 10 home sales, by price, for single-family homes in New Bedford in 2021 so far, according to Peabody-based real estate and mortgage data company The Warren Group.

1) 42 Grove Street

Built in 1894, this 5,400-square-foot, three-story Georgian revival features six bedrooms and five bathrooms. It sold for $ 629,000 on April 1.

In addition to a large staircase, there is an elevator to help you move among its 16 rooms. And as a very attractive feature, the house sits on a double plot, which can be subdivided.

Calling this sale a “single family home” sale is a bit of a misnomer, but technically it qualifies.

The home at this North End property is small, only 840 square feet with two bedrooms and one bathroom.

It is the land on which the house is located that is valuable.

The land is located next to Ashley Boulevard, just north of Tarkiln Hill Road. According to a listing on Realtor.com, the lot contains three plots, which are ideal for investors and business owners.

“Great opportunity to place your business in a growing traffic area,” the list read.

It sold for $ 520,000 on April 16.

3) 149 Hawthorn Street

This house is both the oldest and the largest in this Top 10.

The 5,900 square foot home in the Historic Downtown District was built in 1857. According to data from The Warren Group, it has 22 bedrooms; seven are bedrooms. It sold for $ 467,400 on May 14.

Just down the street from # 3 is Best Selling # 4, another historic beauty with size and character to spare.

This 4,200 square foot Georgian house, built in 1893, has eight bedrooms and four bathrooms. It sold for $ 470,000 on February 26.

It sold for $ 470,000 on February 26, the same price as the historic Georgian home at 74 Hawthorn St.

7) 78 Westview Street

This 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1,900 square foot home located in a cul-de-sac near Brooks Elementary School sold on July 30 for $ 454,000.

If the water view is what you’re looking for in a home, # 9 on this top 10 list is the home for you.

This raised ranch is the second smallest on this list at 1,066 square feet, but it’s not the size that makes it valuable. It sits right across from Clarks Cove, with nothing between it and the water to block the view.

The elevated ranch house, built in 1971, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It sold for $ 450,000 on May 27.

9t) 1180, rue Cardinal

Welcome to the northernmost house on this list. And the most recent.

This Colonial, built in 2018, sold for $ 450,000 on May 18. Covering 2,000 square feet, it has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It sits in a development that surrounds a pond off Acushnet Avenue, just south of the Freetown Line.
